By JERRY LISKA Chicago, June 18. UfV-For the first time in exactly 12 years, a heavyweight championship bout will be fought Wednesday night with Joe Louis, the retired Brown Bomber, outside the ring. The 15-round Comiskey park title scrap (National Boxing association version) will match Ezzard Charles, who sprouted from a 126-pounder to a contender for boxing's top bauble in seven years, and Jersey Joe Walcott, a life-be-gins-at-over-35 ring paradox. There is not a clear-cut world heavyweight crown at stake, and Chicago's fightdom has responded lethargically to the match which Louis now director of the international boxing club sponsoring the bout has dictated will be for his vacated title. It was reported reliably that ticket sales this week end were less than $100,000 far below the gate Louis predicted shortly after the bout was announced months ago.

This can be translated into fewer than 10,000 ticket-holding fans. When Louis won the heavyweight title from James J. Braddock 12 years ago to the day at the very sarde arena 45,500 fans paid to get into Comiskey park. Unless business comes a-rushin' at the last minute, the IBC in which James D. Norris and Arthur Wirtz are the money-men behind Louis is due to suffer its second box office flop in less than a week.

(The IBC-promoted middleweight title bout in which Jake LaMotta dethroned Marcel Cerdan at Detroit last Thursday drew only $159,762 gross against a hoped-for Charles has been established an early 7 to 5 favorite. hits previously, to end the game and snap the Phils' winning streak at six. The Cards counted in the first on a walk, a single by Ed Kazak and Stan Hollmig's error. They added two more in the third when Nippy Jones came through with a bases-loaded single. Ken Trinkle, who relieved Curt Simmons, forced home the final Card run when he walked Enos Slaughter with the bases loaded in the seventh.

1 Rex Barney was in rare form today as he pitched the National league's front-running Brooklyn Dodgers to a 2-0, five-hit triumph over the Chicago Cubs. Barney fanned seven and walked only two batters in going the distance for the second time this season. His previous route going performance was a 3-1 two-hit conquest over the Cubs in Brooklyn ten days ago. The victory was Brooklyn's eighth straight over the Cubs and extended a Chicago losing streak to seven games. It was the Cubs' sixth straight beating under their new manager, Frank Frisch.

Brooklyn nicked veteran Emil Leonard for a run in the second inning. Gil Hodges beat out a hit and raced to third when Carl Furoll followed with a single to right. Leonard got Bill Cox to fly out. Bruce Edwards then bounced to second sacker Emil Verban who threw him out after missing a tag on Furillo, Hodges scoring on the play. Verban claimed that Furillo had gone out of the base line and should have been called out to no avail.

The Dodgers scored their final run in the third. Peewee Reese singled to start the frame, went to second on an infield out and to third on a wild pitch. Duke Snider grounded to first sacker Herman Reich and Reese was thrown out at the plate. Jackie Robinson then singled Snider to third and the Duke scored as Hodges for the second time beat out a hit down the third base line. Score: R.

lift Jake La Motta, his left hand puffed and his right eye lightly patched, promised today to be a fighting middleweight champion. "I really worked for this one," said 26-year-old Jake who chased the 160-pound title for years. "Now I got what I wanted." The granite-jawed thumper from New York's Bronx realized his ambition of a lifetime last night at Briggs stadium when he stopped an injured Marcel Cerdan of Casablanca in the 10th round. "Getting a chance at the title gave me incentive to work," he explained, "I'll fight anybody they say. From now on, while I'm still fighting I'll always be in the best of shape.

I found that out makes fights easier. When I get too lazy to work, I'll quit." La Motta lounged in his hotel room, greeting well wishers and accepting telephone congratulations in a steady stream of calls. All of that sum, with the exception of approximately $5,000 for traveling expenses, was held in escrow by the promoters, the International Boxing club. Cerdan flew to New York early this morning for an X-ray of his shoulder. He is supposed to return to France soon and was due to make a movie in Italy. His 40 per cent share here was 51,124.

In addition he will pick up about $25,000 that has been held in escrow since he beat Tony Zale for the title in Jersey City last September. Immediately after reaching New York, Cerdan had the shoulder X-rayed and then went to a hotel where he packed his bags for a flight to Paris tomorrow. Dr. Vincent Nardiello, New York athletic commissioner physician, examined the pictures later and said that Cerdan suffered no fracture but that muscles had been torn. He said the internal bleeding had stopped.
