If you have played Minecraft before, you will know that Enchanting will give you some of the best stuff in the game. Not only does it help you get more stuff from anything, but it also makes your tools last longer. You can even get Enchantments that deal fire damage to enemies. There are so many Enchantments to get that it can confuse new players.
There are a bunch of ways to get the Fortune Enchantment. You can create an Enchantment Room, find a Villager who sells the Fortune Enchantment Book or find the Enchantment on a tool while exploring. There isn’t any other way to get this Enchantment, so you must follow one of these ways.

If you don’t know what Fortune does for you, it is an Enchantment for your Pickaxe that gives you more items from whatever you are mining. If you are mining a Diamond Ore with Fortune 1, you will have a chance to get a few rather than just one Diamond from it. It is by far one of the most useful Enchantments in the game.
How to get the Fortune Enchantment
As we said before, there are only 3 ways to get the Enchantment. Keep in mind that this is Vanilla Minecraft. If you have mods installed, there might be other ways to get it, but if we talk about mods, that is a whole other story. Mods can get extremely confusing, so we are just discussing the basic Minecraft experience.
Here are the main ways to get the Fortune Enchantment in Minecraft:
1. Create an Enchantment Room
Building an Enchantment Room is essential for later on in your Minecraft playthrough. If you don’t know how to build an Enchantment Room, you will need at least 15 bookshelves and an Enchantment table. You will want to place the Enchantment Table in the middle of the room. You then place the 15 bookshelves at least 2 blocks from the table in any direction.
It doesn’t matter where you place them, as long as they are 2 blocks away. You can customize the room however you like if you follow the 2-block rule. If you do it right, you can create up to level 30 Enchantments. You will then have a chance at getting Fortune once you start Enchanting your tools.
2. Find a Villager who sells the Fortune Enchantment Book
The next best thing that is extremely useful, if you do find one, is that Villagers sell Fortune Enchantment Books. It is an amazing find if you find one that sells them cheaply. It is also rare to find ones that sell Fortune II or even Fortune III of books. If you do find a Villager that sells it, make sure to get them back to your base so you can buy them.

It can be a little difficult to get them back to your base depending on where they are, but it will be worth the time and effort to get them where you want them to be. Even if you put them in a room that they can’t get out of will suffice until you can build a shop for them to stay in.
3. Find an Enchanted tool while exploring
This is probably the worst way to find Fortune tools on this list, but you can find them while exploring. They aren’t super rare, but you do have to get lucky to get a Fortune II or Fortune III. If you find a random tool with a Fortune Enchantment, use an Anvil to place it on a better tool like a Diamond Pickaxe. Try to keep every Enchanted item you find so you can put it on something later on.
You can find Enchanted gear anywhere in abandoned Mineshafts, Temples, and even the Desert Pyramids. Always check the Village chests; they might have some rare items you can steal from them. They don’t even get mad if you steal from them, either.
Trying to make an Enchanted tool last longer is probably one of the hardest things unless you know how to do it. We will go over other Enchantments that increase the amount of durability the tools have. It is also up to you to be sparing with your tools’ uses. Always ensure you know what you are doing, or else you will waste important items.

Enchant your tools with the Efficiency Enchantment
The Efficiency Enchantment will increase the durability of your tools by a lot. Depending on your level, it might last 2-3 times longer than it normally would. You get an Enchantment before getting the next best Enchantment, which we will talk about after this one. If you don’t have Efficiency on your pickaxes, then why not?
Enchant your tools with the Mending Enchantment
The Mending Enchantment is by far the most important one besides Fortune. If you don’t know what it is, it repairs your tools and gear when you gain experience. It is extremely useful if you want to keep your tools for a long period.

You just need to ensure you don’t fully deplete your pickaxe before gaining experience, or you will lose it forever.
Only use it for mining ores
If you can’t get either of those other 2 Enchantments, you must be very sparing when using your Enchanted pickaxes. Have a bunch of non-enchanted ones and use those to mine regular blocks. When you come across an ore, you can pull out your Enchanted pick and use it. It will save durability until you can get a good Enchantment for it.
